With many members of Congress pushing anti-consumer legislation that will destroy protections for the constituents who elected them, NBTA member Benjamin Wagner, president of the Wisconsin Association for Justice, penned an ode to the 7th Amendment of the US Constitution for the Wisconsin Law Journal. The 7th Amendment, included in the Bill of Rights, protects citizens by preserving the right to trial by jury.

The right to a civil jury trial is firmly rooted in the vision of the founders of our state and country. The 7th Amendment emerged from the demands of small-government advocates who were wary of granting too much power to government officials — be they legislators, bureaucrats or judges.

Congrats to Scranton, PA, lawyer, and NBTA member Mark J. Powell, who was awarded The Daniel G. Grove Award by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Powell receiver the award, the Institute's highest honor, for his commitment to its Advance Trial Advocacy Skills program since 2004.

Four members of the Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law Trial Team won the uber-prestigious Tournament of Champions sponsored by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, on Oct. 23.

3L Rachel Holt and 2L Philip Pasquarello were the team’s advocates, joined by 2Ls Brittany Green and Rachel Greenberg, who served as witnesses.

On Wednesday evening, October 26, @ 7:00 pm PDT, the National Board of Trial Advocacy sponsored broadcast of Your Legal Rights aired A Discussion of the Federal Aviation Administration's New Regulations for the flying of Commercial Unmanned Drone Aircrafts. The interest in using unmanned drone aircrafts has exploded in recent years. Currently they are used by photographers, realtors, construction companies, utilities infrastructure divisions and agricultural industries. They are also being looked to for the delivery of packages.  

Joining host/producer Chuck Finney was Edward Page, NBTA Criminal Trial Advocate. Ed is with the law firm Carlton Fields in Tampa, Florida. In addition, he is a commercial pilot and a flight instructor. Joining them was Ronald Rohde, also a pilot, as well as a patent law and lemon law attorney.

After three years of dedicated service, NBTA president David Rapoport will be handing the reins of the organization over to Jack McGehee at the NBTA board meeting this week in San Francisco. Jack is the senior partner at McGehee, Chang, Barnes, Landgraf and has been NBTA certified since 1992. Jack's trial experience includes 306 personal verdicts.

Jack has appeared on ABC News, Prime Time Live which focused on the medical malpractice crisis and on ABC’s 20/20 for Barbara Walter’s interest in one of his firm’s class action cases. Jack is based in Houston and is licensed to practice in the state courts of Texas and New York. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Karl Truman Law Office is commemorating 25 years of serving personal injury and disability benefits clients in Kentucky and Indiana. The firm's slogan, "Count on the Colonel," reflects principal attorney Karl Truman's military service. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1981, and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel in 2009.

NBTA member, and Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate, Eric Traut was ahead of the curve in using Expedited Jury Trials in his practice, and now a new California law, AB 555, mandates that all limited civil cases be handled as expedited jury trials starting July 1, 2016.

Having tried over 100 civil jury trials, many of them EJT’s, including the first two EJT cases in Riverside courts, Traut has trained attorneys across the state on the use of EJT’s for years, lauding expedited jury trials because the format allows for a more timely conclusion, frees up more courtroom space and provides a greater access to justice for all people.

Chris represents hard working individuals in Social Security Appeals, long term disability and related matters throughout the Mid South: including: Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, and Louisiana.

Chris is admitted to practice in numerous United States Federal courts as well as the Supreme Court of the United States. Travis is a partner at Wright, Berry & White, PLLC, has 30 years of trial experience and has tried nearly 100 jury trials to verdict. He has represented plaintiffs in cases ranging from medical negligence to product liability, fire claims, motor vehicle accidents, defective firearms and several other areas. He has also represented defendants in hundreds of motor vehicle defense cases over the years.

Travis was lead counsel for the plaintiff in a product liability multi-district litigation in Federal Court with cases in seven states and has represented plaintiffs and defendants in class action litigation, and he is the founder of the Gar Gig Continuing Legal Education event held each year at Cedar Lodge in Arkadelphia on the Ouachita River.
