Bio

Paul is Senior Counsel with BROWN ENGSTRAND & SHELY. He practices in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, ethics, professional malpractice and defective products. Paul also served as an Adjunct Professor at Midwestern University/Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2004 until 2012. For the last two years, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at the Arizona State University School of Law.

His undergraduate degree is from the University of Arizona in 1985. He graduated from California Western School of Law in 1989. After law school, he received a master’s degree in bioethics in 2004 from Midwestern University/ Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. Paul also received a Doctorate of Philosophy in 2006 in distance learning with LaCrosse University, where his dissertation was entitled “Morality and Ethics: An Analysis of Medical Legal and Business Ethics from a Casuist Perspective”.

Paul was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 1989, the State Bar of Colorado in 1992, the District of Columbia and the Federal Bar in 2004. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court of Arizona, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

He has been a Judge Pro Tempore of the Maricopa County Superior Court since 2005. Paul has been the Attorney Member of the Arizona Supreme Court Board of Legal Document Preparers since 2007 and served as the Vice-Chairman in 2012. He has been an Attorney Member of the Arizona Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Panel since the rules were revised in 2011. Paul has also been a Member of the Arizona Supreme Court Commission on Judicial Performance Review since 2012. Most recently, Paul was asked to serve on the Supreme Court Task Force on the Delivery of Legal Services.

Paul is Certified by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification in Civil Pretrial Practice Advocacy and Civil Trial Advocacy. He is also Certified in Injury and Wrongful Death Litigation by the State Bar of Arizona Board of Legal Specialization. Paul is an Associate with the American Board of Trial Advocates and is a Diplomate in Medical Malpractice with the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys.
